Standard Features

Three Models From Which to Choose

Rapid offers anodizing power supplies in three distinct control and output waveform configurations, each optimized for a specific group of anodizing processes.

  1. For electrolytic color anodizing applications, Rapid offers power supplies in both variable transformer (sinusoidal AC) and thyristor (phase control AC and DC) configurations, ensuring we have a power supply compatible with any anodizing process.

  2. For conventional DC anodizing, Rapid offers the digital rectifier, a unique and complete anodizing control system, featuring a membrane keypad with the most common options requested on anodizing rectifiers.

  3. For anodizing applications requiring pulsed output, Rapid combines our field-proven pulsed DC power supply with our revolutionary new touch screen digital control system, providing user-friendly, menu-driven programming of all rectifier functions.

    Electrolytic Coloring

Rapid designs and manufactures the highest quality power supplies for electrolytic color anodizing.

Our variable transformer power supplies are single phase units designed specifically to provide a pure, sinusoidal output waveform over the complete output range of the power supply. The variable transformer is available in the standard air cooled design, and for harsh environments, is available in the Rapitrol configuration, where the variable transformer is immersed in inert oil.

Our thyristor AC power supplies offer unmatched flexibility in the management and control of the output waveform. With Rapid thyristor AC power supplies, the operator can independently control the amplitude of each half of the AC output, allowing the power supply waveform to be perfectly matched to the particular coloring process.

Rapid also offers combination power supplies, with both DC pretreatment and AC color cycles. Due to the special nature of color anodizing power supplies, please contact the Rapid factory with your specific requirements.

Conventional DC Anodizing Rectifier Standard Features

    • Preset current and voltage capability
    • Sealed tactile keypad
    • DC On indicator
    • Fault indicator and alarm
    • Large (0.5"), bright LED digital meter display for easy viewing of output voltage and current

Digital Meters Large (0.5"), bright LED digital display for easy viewing of output voltage and current

    Totalizing Ampere-Time Meter

    • Accumulated ampere-time is shown on the alphanumeric display.

    Variable Ramp

    • The operator can select an output ramp time between 0-100 minutes in one-second increments.

    Cycle Timer

    • A cycle timer will sound an alarm and/or shut off the rectifier when the operator-selected cycle time has been reached. A cycle time of up to 1,000 hours can be selected, in one-second increments.

    Fault Diagnostics

    • In the unlikely event a fault occurs, the LCD display automatically displays the most common fault conditions.

Pulsed DC Anodizing Rectifier Standard Features

Features included on Rapid pulsed power DC anodizing rectifiers:

    Environmentally Protected Control Panel
The operator interface consists of a sealed 10.25" diagonal LCD black & white touch screen display. Power supply setup and operation parameters are displayed and programmed by following clear and simple menus. (Color screen is available as an option-see photo below)

    Pulsed DC Output
On and off times (3-30 ms), output current base, and peak levels, and output voltage are independently adjustable, providing maximum flexibility.

    Programmable Ampere-Time Meter with Preset
The ampere-time meter can be programmed to alarm and/or shut off the power supply after the preset time is reached.

    Variable Ramp
The operator can select an output ramp time between 0-100 minutes, in one-second increments.

    Fault Diagnostics
In the unlikely event a fault occurs, the LCD display automatically displays the most common fault conditions.

    Protection
Each Rapid power supply is designed for maximum performance in demanding environments. The following devices provide protection for the power supply in the unlikely event of a failure:

    • Control electronics protected from aggressive atmospheres
    • Short-circuit detection
    • Overcurrent detection
    • Automatic voltage stabilization
    • Automatic constant current
    • Transformer overtemperature sensors
