DC Rectifier

Rapid Power Technologies new digitally-controlled power supplies combine state of the art, field-proven microprocessor controls with rugged and efficient power converters, offering unsurpassed flexibility, quality and value to the metal finisher. Designed to provide years of reliable service in the harshest environments, Rapid power supplies incorporate over five decades of cutting-edge innovations in design and manufacturing technologies.

Standard Features

Environmentally Protected Control Panel

  • 80-character LCD alphanumeric programming/diagnostics display
  • Preset output current and voltage capability
  • Sealed tactile keypad
  • DC ON indicator
  • Fault indicator and alarm

Digital Meters

Large (0.5"), bright LED digital displays for easy viewing of output voltage (four digits) and current (six digits).

Totalizing Ampere-Time Meter

Available as either a resettable or non-resettable totalizer, accumulated ampere-time is shown on the alphanumeric display. The operator can easily select the unit of measure in ampere-hours, ampere-minutes or ampere-seconds.

Variable Ramp

The operator can select an output ramp time between 0-100 minutes, in one-second increments. When the power supply is started, the output will rise to the desired voltage or current over the ramp time selected.

Cycle Timer

A cycle timer will sound an alarm and/or shut off the power supply (user selectable) when the operator-selected cycle time has been reached. A cycle time up to 1000 hours can be selected, in one-second increments. Contacts are available for an external alarm.

Fault Diagnostics

In the unlikely event a fault occurs, the LCD automatically displays the following potential fault conditions:

  • Transformer overtemperature
  • Thyristor overtemperature
  • Two application-specific faults

Enclosures

Enclosures up to 72" H are available in either powder-coated steel or PVC at no additional cost. Optional Type 316L stainless steel enclosures are available.

Automatic Voltage Stabilization (AVS)

Maintains the output voltage constant to within ±0.5% of rated voltage from 0-100% of the rated voltage.

Automatic Constant Current (ACC)

Maintains the output current constant to within ±0.5% of rated current from 0-100% of the rated current.

Automatic Crossover

When operating in the voltage stabilization mode, transfer will occur to the constant current mode when the output current reaches the preset current limit. Conversely, when operating in the constant current mode, transfer will occur to the voltage stabilization mode when the output voltage reaches the preset limit.

Protection Features

  • Fast-acting thyristor fuses
(on units up to 2,500 amperes)
  • Electronic thyristor protection
(on units 2,500 amperes and above)
  • Transformer overtemperature shutdown
  • Thyristor overtemperature shutdown
  • Fan overload shutdown
  • Control transformer fuses

Remote Control

The remote control console features an environmentally protected keypad, digital ampere and voltage meters, 80-character display for operation setup and fault information, ampere and voltage adjust pushbuttons, DC ON and fault indicator LED's.

(Standard on three phase, optional on single phase)

Optional Features

Digital Interface

Any number of rectifiers can be connected via two wires to a PLC or computer. The Rapid digital communications interface will support industry standard and proprietary protocols, allowing simple installation and eliminating the need for analog output modules on the PLC or computer.

Analog Interface

For new or existing installations where an analog interface is required, the controls can be provided with an isolated 4-20 ma, 01, 5 or 10 V computer interface option.

Programmable Ampere-Time Meter with Preset

The ampere-time with preset feature can be programmed to alarm and/or shut off the power supply after the preset ampere-time is reached. This option also includes the standard ampere-time totalizer.

Average Current Density (ACD)

The DC output is varied in direct proportion to the load, maintaining an average current density over varying loads.

Reduced Ripple

For applications requiring lower ripple, Rapid offers power supplies with output ripple as low as 1% of the operating setpoint.
