Tap Switch
Rapid Power Technologies tap switch power supplies combine field-proven tap switch controls with rugged and efficient power converters, offering unsurpassed flexibility, quality, and value to the metal finisher. Designed to provide years of reliable service in the harshest environments, Rapid rectifiers incorporate over five decades of cutting-edge innovations in design and manufacturing technologies.
Affordable Flexibility
Rapid self-contained tap switch power supplies are capable of a wide range of output control by means of three eight-position tap switches. The tap switch design provides twenty-two control positions between minimum and maximum output. Voltage and current output changes can be made while the power supply is operating, ensuring DC output power with no interruptions.
Rapid tap switch rectifiers are the most efficient and cost-effective tap switch rectifiers available. They feature maximum 5% rms ripple throughout the operating range. Enclosures are manufactured from high grade steel with a corrosion-resistant finish, or from durable PVC. Cooling options include air or water.
Fabricated from the highest quality materials, and manufactured by skilled craftsmen, Rapid rectifiers provide years of reliable service under the most severe conditions. Each rectifier is conservatively designed and thoroughly tested at continuous output to ensure maximum performance with minimum downtime. There is no better tap switch rectifier made today.
Standard Features
Features included on every Rapid tap switch rectifier:
- All copper construction to ensure highest efficiency (no aluminum used)
- Transformers are manufactured from splice-free copper and grain-oriented silicon steel and epoxy-coated for maximum reliability
- Class H 220° C insulation with a Class B 80° temperature rise ensures continuous operation in high temperature environments
- Full line-current rated magnetic starting contactors installed outside of the transformer primary ensure safety and ease of maintenance
- Full wave rectification limits ripple and increases efficiency
- Analog DC ammeter and voltmeter and Start/Stop buttons are
conveniently mounted on the rectifier front panel
Protection
Each Rapid tap switch rectifier is designed for maximum performance in demanding environments. The following devices protect the rectifier in the unlikely event of a failure:
- DC output fuse (below 1000 amperes)
- Solid state overload releases the contactor, removing power from the rectifier should the output current exceed the rectifier rating by 10% (1000 amperes and above)
- Thermal sensors mounted on the diode heat sinks and in the transformer shut off the rectifier if the temperature exceeds a factory preset level
- Fan overloads turn off the rectifier in the event of a cooling fan failure
Optional Features
Optional features that customize the Rapid tap switch rectifier to particular customer requirements include:
- Digital ammeter
- Digital voltmeter
- Digital ampere-time meters
- End of cycle timer
- Polarity reversing switches
- Stainless steel enclosure
