Voltage Regulators
THE PROBLEM: Voltage fluctuations above or below nominal values, whether short or persistent, can interfere seriously with operation of electrical, electronic and electromechanical equipment. These interferences show up as erratic behavior or poor quality or even total equipment shutdown. Voltage fluctuations frequently create havoc in industrial process controls, manufacturing processes, testing equipment, HVAC systems in commercial buildings, welding operations, lighting output, rectifier equipment, resistance heaters, etc.
In some situations, voltage drops occur where feeder runs are overly long. In other cases, voltages vary because of sudden surges or sags. However, the solution to most voltage variation problems can be found in a piece of equipment known as a voltage regulator.
Voltage regulators are designed to protect against voltage variations in industrial and commercial applications that don't require suppression of line noise. Generally, these units perform very reliably and will deliver many years of dependable service.
In selecting a voltage regulator for your particular needs, there are several criteria to keep in mind. These include: response time, input voltage variation, output regulation, efficiency, waveform distortion, overload capability and maintenance.

ReguDrive Electromechanical Voltage Regulators
Rapid's ReguDrive electromechanical regulators are designed for easy service and maintenance. They provide a high degree of regulation accuracy at low cost, and are engineered for easy installation and simple operation. These units are perfect for applications where quick response is not necessary, such as building power. ReguDrive regulators are frequently used to prevent overheating or other damage to industrial power supplies and motors.
The ReguDrive design features a power-on pilot light and an automatic/manual control selector switch. In the automatic mode, voltage is preset to the desired nominal output voltage at the factory. When manual is selected, voltage output is controlled by raise and lower switches. For situations where long feeder runs are a problem, an optional remote voltage sensor can be ordered to enable the regulator to compensate for line drop.
Other options include a regulator bypass switch and an output circuit breaker. Analog or digital input or output voltmeters and ammeters are also available. Custom built units can be designed to meet a variety of specific requirements, such as special input or output voltages.
